Why is it when you’re having fun time goes by way too fast? That seems to be how things have been rolling for me. I’ve also been burning up any spare time preparing for some races.
I did a near Olympic distance triathlon (the swim is only 1000m not 1500m) a few Sunday’s ago and managed a 2:29:59. My secret goal was to complete it under 2:30. Talk about squeaking in hey?! I had no clue at any point what my times were so that was a really nice surprise.
I have two more races this summer: a trail half marathon in Whitehorse and then a 20km mountain run in Tumbler Ridge 6 days later. Both are very challenging elevation wise. I really wanted to do the Whitehorse run and I just couldn’t miss Tumbler (it’s my favorite). I just hope I don’t get too wrecked from the Whitehorse race.
I have also been up to my new favorite thing next to running – paddleboarding. I love it. I suck at it and my technique is probably all wrong, but I don’t care I’m having so much fun. The awesomest part is that I really really wanted Kobi to board with me and would you believe she had it down in 20 minutes!? I was stoked. She is a SUP superstar. She should have her own reality TV show!
Those of you who run with your dog know how awesome it feels, but I have to say that paddleboarding with your canine is rad. Just watching her take in the scenery while we’re on the water is so amazing. I do get a little worried when she sees ducks or snaps at horse flies, but so far so good. She even digs her PFD.
Do you SUP? Would you want to SUP with your dog? Ever done two races in one week or am I the only person out there who can’t race plan very well? What’s the biggest (native) wildlife poop you’ve ever seen out running?

Lol Ang! I love, love, love your blog. I always laugh out loud, so thank you. Happy running! And paddling!

SUP looks like so much fun! I’d love to try it someday!!
I heart trail races!

It is so much fun! I think you’d like it. I feel the same way about trail races! They are my faves!!

I love that you took a picture of bear poop. I consider taking a picture of unidentified poop all the time but then think that might be weird.

The bear poop was kind of funny because they are always after people to clean up after their dogs and yet who cleans up after the bears? I have taken photos of unidentified poop, I just haven’t posted them. It’s really just science so it isn’t weird (right?).

Congrats on your races! I’ve never done SUP, but would like to. People down here do yoga on them. Biggest poop…well, we’re in the ‘city’ but there is a farm down the street and sometimes they ride their horses through the park…so horse poop…it’s big.

My yoga instructor does yoga on her SUP. I’m not quite there yet. The lakes up here are kind of swampy and I really don’t want to fall in so I won’t be trying yoga on mine for awhile. Horse poop is pretty big – you win.

Wow, that’s awesome! I had never seen bear poo. (Just kidding, I meant the boarding!!) 🙂

Ha ha. I find bear poo interesting as you get to see what they’ve been eating. I don’t know why I find that interesting. I saw people SUP’ing with their dogs years ago on a show and I knew it was something I had to try. It is quite fun!

Congrats on your tri!! That’s great you reached your time goal! I tried SUP last year and really enjoyed it, I want to head out again this year for sure. I saw bear poo on a run when I was living in Manning Park, but I was more scared than excited haha.

Thanks! I love/hate triathlon. Once I’m done, I love them! SUP is fun isn’t it? I was a bit on edge when I took the bear poo photo. There was another huge pile about 400 metres away so I wanted to get out of there.

Wow, I don’t blame you! Good thing you’ve got a pretty tough-looking companion 😉

That looks like so much fun! I miss running with my dog, but sadly she’s just too old now to accompany me. Even if we go slowly, she always struggles afterwards, so with a heavy heart I have decided that it’s kinder for her if I don’t take her anymore, even though we both hate it. =(

That’s so tough when they get older and can’t keep up anymore. I don’t know what I’ll do when I can’t run with Kobi (years from now I hope).

I want to SUP so bad, but the Clarion River isn’t super conducive to such activities. OMG Kobi in your race gear… I love it.
I think you will be perfectly fine with back to back races. Trail races don’t wreck me as bad as road races. Maybe immediately following, but I bounce back pretty quick. I’m sure you will bounce back even better than I do 🙂 cheers!
